Our Instructors

Houston Cottrell

Houston Cottrell is a distinguished Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under the Gracie family, with over a decade of experience teaching jiu-jitsu and more than twenty years in martial arts. He is a 2018 graduate of Liberty University with a degree in Intelligence and National Security. Twice recognized for his community leadership and contributions, he has been named Top 10 under forty in two different cities. His dedication to teaching and community service underscores his commitment to sharing jiu-jitsu and mentoring others.

Off the mat, Houston and his family reside in Madison County where he is an active member of his church as well as Business Networking International.

Jennifer Waldrup

Jennifer Waldrup is a dedicated Gracie Jiu-Jitsu purple belt with over seven years of experience teaching Women’s and Kid’s classes. Starting as a student in the Women’s program, Jennifer’s passion for Jiu-Jitsu quickly grew, inspiring her to deepen her knowledge and skills to share with others. She is now an integral part of Akros Academy of Jiu-Jitsu, empowering students both on and off the mats. 

Beyond her role as an instructor, Jennifer is a proud mom to twin boys and a lab named “Delta,” balancing her family life with her passion for martial arts.
